This entry level position will provide you with the opportunity to expand your “people” skills, and to gain an overview of a variety of agencies which provide services to disadvantaged and emotionally disturbed youth. (Residents are placed with us through County Mental Health, Child Protective Services, and the Juvenile Justice system.) In addition, staff who work a weekday shift, are also involved as Teaching Assistants in our on site Special Education Schools. You and a partner will be working directly with 6 teen boys who are residents in a therapeutic treatment home. You will provide an extremely structured environment, based on each resident’s individual behavior modification plan. Paid attendance at the monthly 2 hour training seminars will provide you with practical information on topics such as psychotropic medications, clinical and therapeutic interventions, and behavior modification skills.
Counselors are involved in activities including, but not limited to: teaching basic life skills to residents, food preparation, supervising and assisting residents in cleaning their living areas, basic first aid, administering and charting medications, completion of required daily logs, physical restraints when needed to ensure safety of client or staff, and providing continuous supervision and direction of residents for safe and appropriate behaviors. CA DMV: Acceptable driving record - No DUI’s (verification required at the interview)
Background Check: CA DOJ and FBI background check done at agency’s expense
Physical & TB Test: Done at agency’s expense after hire. Must pass both.
Starting Salary: $10.50 - 11.50 hourly, depending on documented experience
Shifts: Monday - Friday 7am - 3pm. (This position also works as T.A.)
Monday - Friday 3pm - 11pm
Graveyards (Awake Overnights) 11pm - 7am
Weekends Sat & Sun 7am - 11pm. (This shift does 32 hours in 2 days)
On-call - Fill in for staff who are ill, on vacation, or extra staff is needed
